More tests as we age

I am all for people over a certain age having a shorter license renewal period. I understand that driving gives us a huge sense of freedom and it is a huge convenience when we have places to be, BUT I don’t feel that other drivers should have an increased chance of being in an accident. I am basing this opinion on the normal aging process. People age at different rates so it’s hard to say an age that I feel that the shortened renewal period should begin, but I'm gonna just go with 60…no offensive to anyone…60’s the new 50, right? It is very important to remember that our biological age does not equal our chronological age, so there may be 95 year olds that are sharp as a tack and fully capable of driving and on the other hand there may be 60 year olds that can’t drive to save their lives. For more information on “Seniors at the Wheel” please click here.

Either way I feel that there should be more tests taken and that they should be on a shorter time frame. There should be a vision test, cognition test, and an actual driving test.  Normal aging symptoms that can relate to driving are slower reflexes, declines in visual acuity, depth perception, near vision, and hearing. ALL of these can cause major problems while driving and can result in injuries to oneself and to others.

With that being said, this man is my hero...
